Well where do I start?
Fiona and I have had a desire for some time to start our own business working from home which would allow us to provide a service that people want and we could deliver in a relaxed and pleasant environment. But what to do?
Fiona already was an accomplished baker and regularly made beautiful birthday and celebration cakes for friends and family. Perhaps this was the best idea. However we realised that baking was very much centred around the weekend, when most people required their cakes, and it would not be possible to make many at the same time. So this was not the best idea.
With Philip's previous experience in the NHS as well as his current business supplying medical equipment throughout the UK, another idea was to look at offering Laser Tattoo Removal.
Tattoo removal is a growing business with some 25% of people with tattoo's regretting at least one of their designs. So this appeared to be a good market.
We wanted to be professional and well equipped, as their are many low-cost "bedroom" based services around. Often these are unregulated and not insured and people should be careful when deciding to go to one of these providers. Always check that the business is fully insured, and has been checked and can prove this, by a Laser Protection Advisor (LPA). We have and will happily provide Simon Wharmby's (Lasersafe) details to any of our clients.
We looked at equipment suppliers and having decided on wanting to "buy British" if possible, decided upon AW3 who are based in Dagenham, as our provider. We chose a AW3 Flash Combo system as this not only provided the laser suitable for tattoo removal, but also Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) so we can also offer a full range of IPL treatments too.
So we purchased our laser in February 2017, and at the same time embarked upon choosing a suitable home office solution which we wanted to build in our garden, specifically to house Nu Skin Laser.
Again we found the solution quite close to home and building started work in March.
